The ladies are out on the bay, sailing away in their prams today. A pram is an old-fashioned shallow draft boat with a squarish bow. Imagine rigging a sail to a row boat and you have an idea what a pram looks like. Sounds weird but these little floating dinghies are perfect for sailing in the bay off Caladesi Island near Dunedin, Florida. Caladesi, by the way, has been rated the #1 beach in the United States.
It's an all-women sailing club and most of the gals out on the water today are over fifty. Although the boats are small, they're just the right size for having fun without a whole lot of effort. Even in a diminutive vessel, sailing can be wonderful recreational therapy. It's relaxing and enjoyable exercise with the wind in your hair, sunshine, fresh air, sparkling blue water and the comarraderie of your sailing companions. Not to mention...a round or two of Margaritas for the lady salts after a dandy day out on the water.

We ar ein Virginia - snowed in and freezing cold. I cannot tell you how much I'm enjoying your pictures of the prams, and the water, and the sunshine. Have a margarita for me!
Hi ..YEAH it looks like fun! I tried to learn how to sail when I lived in Charelston SC..but uh didn't happen..! THey were 14ft Solings and I was freaking out.. now the rowboat sounds better. If you ever get to Naples...lemme know!

Finally, I served my time in the Navy and I love going to sea. Love the cruses and I own a 20’ pontoon boat on the lake, but I just can't do the sailing thing. I want power under my feet - or butt, depending on what's going on.
Ahoy thar! Fun indeed ... If it were me in one of them prams, I'd either want to race, fish, or talk like a pirate (as well as dress in ye olde appropriate sea-faring garb)!

There is nothing quite like sailing. You cannot control the wind but you can control how your craft deals with it. I love it and I miss it. I live in an area dimpled with lakes large and small but I have no boat of any kind. I fell in love with the little catamarans (Hobies and Prindles, etc) and may yet buy one.So many toys available and so little cash...

These pictures remind me of our summers down at the harbor many years ago. We have sabots similar to your small boats that our kids learned to sail in and then graduated to lasers and joined the crews of the racing boats from the yacht club. They were happy days. Our kids, in their forties now, both have their own boats. One sails on the Colorado River and is deep into wake boarding and the other sails the lakes and reservoirs of Idaho and Oregon
I'm not into sailing, but I am into beautiful pictures that make me feel warm. (Which is sorely needed when it's 25 degrees F.)
